In the summer of 2022, Yarmouth History Center hosted a temporary exhibit of large photo prints from our collection of images of the 1959 Visitors Days. This show showcased large photographs that provide beautifully clear and detailed views of the events, people, and places that made up Yarmouth’s Visitors Days celebrations. From a huge parade along Main Street, featuring floats from many local businesses and organizations, to boat and fishing demonstrations on the Royal River to dog and horse shows at Bennett Field, this was a major community event during the summer of 1959. It gave rise to several more annual Visitors Days celebrations, eventually inspiring the Clam Festival in the mid-1960s.
Thanks to Yarmouth Municipal TV, we now have a wonderful video record of the show. Please watch below and enjoy!
