Join Yarmouth Historical Society at 7:00 pm on Monday, October 15 as we welcome John Cross to our ongoing Lecture Series. Cross, who is Secretary of Development and College Relations at Bowdoin College, will present a talk about one-time Yarmouth resident John Brown Russwurm (1799-1851). Russwurm was the first African-American graduate of Bowdoin College and an abolitionist, newspaper publisher, and governor of Liberia.
October 15 is also the date of Yarmouth Historical Society’s annual meeting. Cross’ talk will follow this very brief business meeting. The lecture is free for members of Yarmouth Historical Society and $5 for all others. The lecture series is sponsored by the Leon and Lisa Gorman Fund.
