- Inspired by the cotton bale dolly on display at the History Center, this talk will investigate the links between Maine’s economy and the wider cotton industry of the 19th century.

- Title: Maine and New England’s Black Sailors
- There is a long and storied tradition of Black sailors in Maine and New England. People of African heritage also worked in related shore-side industries such as longshoremen, blacksmiths and sailmakers. South Portland Historical Society development and museum director Seth Goldstein will be presenting a lecture on this interesting topic.
