Monday, October 21 at 7:00 pm ~ Yarmouth Historical Society welcomes Maine’s senior archaeologist Dr. Arthur Spiess to the Fall Lecture Series at 7:00 pm on Monday, October 21. In a talk entitled “The Archaeology of Casco Bay,” Spiess will explore the prehistoric archaeology of our region. This talk will be held on the third floor of Merrill Memorial Library, 215 Main Street in Yarmouth.
Dr. Arthur Spiess is Senior Archaeologist at the Maine Historic Preservation Commission. He earned a PhD in Anthropology from Harvard University in 1978. Since then, he has been employed by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission as an archaeologist, a job that involves locating, identifying, and protecting significant archaeological sites, including nomination of sites to the National Register of Historic Places.
October 21 is also the date of Yarmouth Historical Society’s Annual Meeting. Spiess’ talk will follow this very brief business meeting. The lecture is free for members of Yarmouth Historical Society and $5 for all others and is sponsored by the Leon and Lisa Gorman Fund.
