Yarmouth Historical Society is a membership-based 501(c)-3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to collect, preserve, and educate the public about the history of the town of Yarmouth and the area of ancient North Yarmouth.
Yarmouth Historical Society has one of the finest local history collections in Maine. The Society exhibits this collection at the Yarmouth History Center at 118 East Elm Street, Yarmouth, Maine. At the Center, visitors can view some of the collection’s thousands of objects, archives, and photographs that document our heritage from the early history to yesterday.
The History Center offers interpretive exhibitions, educational lectures, school and community programs, local history resources, research assistance, a museum shop, and the Hamill Community Room, an event space available for rent.
Architect Scott Simons designed the Yarmouth History Center to incorporate the stone structure of the existing 1923 Water District building. Completed in 2013, the History Center’s gallery, office and meeting spaces are a wonderful combination of old and new.
